Career
Hessel has an academic background in Molecular life sciences (BSc, University of Groningen) and Infection biology & Immunology (MSc, Erasmus MC Rotterdam). He performed his doctoral research at the Erasmus MC on the development of antibiotic-nanomedicines for the treatment of lung infections. After obtaining his doctorate, Hessel worked at YSIOS Capital in Barcelona for a year as investment analyst in biotechnology.

As of February 2022, Hessel works at EDP Patent Attorneys as a trainee patent attorney.

Personality
Hessel is driven by a passion for the practical application of innovative scientific concepts. He has a knack for translating complex processes and results into clear and comprehensible language. Hessel takes great satisfaction from open and pragmatic collaboration to achieve the best possible end result for clients.

Publications and memberships
Hessel is the co-author of six publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has presented his research on national and international conferences. He is a member of the Royal Dutch Society of Microbiology (KNVM) and the Dutch Society of Medical Microbiology (NVMM).
