The invention provides an apparatus for the thermal treatment of biomass, comprising (1) a low-temperature drying section comprising a low-temperature drying section channel with low-temperature drying section channel (screw) transporter, (2) a high-temperature drying section comprising a high-temperature drying section channel with high-temperature drying section channel (screw) transporter, (3) a torrefaction section comprising a torrefaction channel with torrefaction section channel (screw) transporter, (4) a cooling section comprising a cooling section channel with cooling section channel (screw) transporter, (5) a torrefaction section off-gas combustor, (6) a thermal energy transfer system, in thermal contact with the torrefaction section off-gas combustor and one or more of the torrefaction section, the high-temperature drying section and the low-temperature drying section.

Toilet unit

The invention provides a toilet arrangement for a urodynamic measurement, the toilet arrangement comprising: a bowl unit with a bowl unit outlet; a weigh unit comprising: (i) a receptor comprising (a) a receptor opening in fluid contact with the bowl unit outlet but not in direct physical contact with the bowl unit outlet and (b) a receptor outlet; (ii) a pump unit comprising (a) a pump unit inlet in fluid contact with the receptor outlet, (b) a shredder in fluid contact with the receptor outlet, and (c) a pump unit outlet; (iii) a load cell configured to weigh the receptor and the pump unit and to provide a corresponding load cell signal; and a control unit configured to detect the load cell signal as function of time.

Calcium sensitive gelatin gels

The invention provides a method for the production of a gel-based product, the method comprising (i) providing a liquid composition comprising gelatin in an amount of 0.1-30 wt.%, and (ii) adding a calcium salt to the liquid composition to provide a calcium concentration in the liquid composition up to 50 m M, wherein when combining the gelatin and calcium salt the liquid composition substantially does not comprises a cross-linker,and wherein the gelatin comprises amino acids with at least 1% of the total amount of amino acids being succinylated or phtalated.

Coffee pulp preservation and extraction process

The invention provides a coffee pulp treatment process comprising (a1) Providing coffee pulp, obtainable from a production process for producing green coffee beans from coffee cherries; (a2) subjecting the coffee pulp to a preservation process, (b) extracting from the coffee pulp a pectin comprising extract, wherein extraction is performed under acid conditions or alkaline conditions, to provide the pectin comprising extract; (c) enzymatic treatment of the pectin comprising extract, wherein the enzymatic treatment comprises a treatment with one or more enzymes selected from the group consisting of an esterase and a reductase, to provide a enzymatically treated pectin material; and (d) extraction of polyphenol functionalized coffee pectin extract from the enzymatically treated pectin material.

Dual beam device for simultaneous measurement of spectrum and polarization of light

The invention provides a spectrometer setup comprising a light receiving section, a light dispersive element, and a 2D array light detector, wherein the spectrometer setup further comprises a polarization analyzer configured downstream of the light receiving section and upstream of the light dispersive element, wherein the spectrometer setup is configured to allow part of the received light as measuring beam to be intercepted by the polarization analyzer and to allow part of the received light as reference beam to be non-intercepted by the polarization analyzer, wherein the polarization analyzer is configured to modulate a spectral light distribution of only the measuring beam, wherein the spectrometer setup is configured to disperse by the light dispersive element both (i) at least part of the measuring beam downstream of the polarization analyzer and (ii); at least part of the reference beam, and to display at different parts of the 2D array light detector.

Food product with inhomogeneous salt distribution

The invention provides a method for the production of a food product comprising a tastant (such as salt or sugar). The food product according to the invention has a tastant bulk weight percentage and an inhomogeneous tastant bulk distribution. The invention provides the use of an inhomogeneous tastant bulk distribution in a food product for providing a food product with a reduced tastant bulk weight percentage. The invention can be used for enhancing and/or improving the sensory perception of the tastant in a food product.

Submerged filtration membrane

The invention is directed to a process for cleaning a submerged filtration membrane in a tank containing a liquid, comprising providing a) a gas-dispersing device comprising a channel with a circumferential wall with a number of apertures and at least a first inlet and a second inlet; b) providing a pulsed gas flow to the first inlet, or to the second inlet or to both first and second inlets of the gas-dispersing device. The invention is further directed to a gas flow system and a membrane filtration tank with membranes and such gas flow systems.
