Career

Dick studied chemical technology at the University of Twente (Enschede, NL) with a specialisation in process technology. He obtained his PhD degree at the same university for the thesis “Hydrodynamic studies of two and three phase systems: Pressure influence.” In addition, Dick successfully completed the technological designer program “process technology” organised by the University of Twente and the University of Groningen, resulting in a PDEng degree. Dick has worked extensively on the development of new products and processes in the fields of chemistry and life sciences for different companies and contract research organisations. He worked as an assistant business development manager at Kemira Chemicals in Rozenburg (NL). Successively he has worked at the agro-technological research institute ATO-DLO (and its successors) in Wageningen (NL), focussing on new technologies for (further) processing plant and animal material and on new methods and techniques for performing consumer research in a real life setting. Dick, furthermore, worked as a business development manager and project leader at TOP BV in Wageningen (NL), a company developing and implementing new processes and products, especially for the food industry. Since May 2014, Dick is working at EDP Patent Attorneys.

Since 2023 Dick is also a registered representative for the Unified Patent Court (UPC) following Rule 12.1 of the Rules on the EPLC, also known as the “Grandfather Clause”.

Expertise as patent attorney

Dick has experience in drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the fields of chemistry, mechanics, physics and life sciences. The patent applications he has dealt with cover fields of mechanical devices, chemical engineering, chemical and physical methods of analysis, medical devices, food (structuring) processes, mild conservation processes, etc.

Personality

Dick takes a great interest in novelties and likes innovations involving technical and technological areas. He has an analytical approach to work and thinking and he gets motivated from advising and assisting clients and cooperating with them.

Publications and Memberships

Dick is writer and co-author of a dozen publications in scientific and professional journals. In addition, he has performed multiple poster and oral presentations concerning a variety of subjects during his promotion and his other research activities. He is member of the Dutch Order of Patent Attorneys.
